Price for Cocoa; Paste, Not Defatted in France (CIF) - 2023
The average cocoa; paste, not defatted import price stood at $4,327 per ton in June 2023, surging by 5% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 6.4% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in June 2023.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($5,253 per ton) and the Netherlands ($4,963 per ton), while the price for Spain ($3,941 per ton) and Cameroon ($3,955 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average cocoa; paste, not defatted export price amounted to $4,607 per ton, growing by 3.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.4% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,664 per ton. From May 2023 to June 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($5,344 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($3,454 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Cocoa; Paste, Not Defatted in France
Cocoa; paste, not defatted imports into France reached 70K tons in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 110K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cocoa; paste, not defatted imports fell to $266M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $314M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

After two years of decline, overseas shipments of cocoa; paste, not defatteds increased by 2.7% to 43K tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment.
In value terms, cocoa; paste, not defatted exports expanded slightly to $177M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern.
