In October 2023, the average import price for coal; bituminous, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds amounted to $247 per ton, with an increase of 6% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 9.3% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $327 per ton. From May 2023 to October 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($259 per ton), while the price for Poland ($245 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (-0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for coal; bituminous, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds stood at $255 per ton in October 2023, rising by 6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 20% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $378 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to October 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($307 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($233 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the amount of coal; bituminous, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds imported into the Czech Republic skyrocketed to 6.1M tons, picking up by 90% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
