In September 2023, the average import price for coal; anthracite, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds amounted to $478 per ton, waning by -6.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 when the average import price increased by 9.6% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $607 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($553 per ton), while the price for Italy ($454 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In October 2023, the average export price for coal; anthracite, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds amounted to $510 per ton, with a decrease of -2.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 25% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $751 per ton. From July 2023 to October 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Serbia.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Bulgaria amounted to +3.3% per month.

Imports of Coal; Anthracite, Whether or Not Pulverised, But Not Agglomerated in Slovenia

For the fourth year in a row, Slovenia recorded growth in overseas purchases of coal; anthracite, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds, which increased by 24% to 20K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +51.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of coal; anthracite, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds expanded notably to $4.5M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
