In 2022, the average import price for coal; anthracite, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds amounted to $174 per ton, growing by 6.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 333%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,045 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($204 per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($9.9 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,111 per ton, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($2,257 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($919 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the fourth consecutive year, Finland recorded growth in supplies from abroad of coal; anthracite, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds, which increased by 15% to 17K tons in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 255% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of coal; anthracite, whether or not pulverised, but not agglomerateds soared to $3M in 2022. In general, imports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 187% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
