In June 2023, the average cereals; maize (corn), seed import price amounted to $3,468 per ton, increasing by 27% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 577% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $4,064 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($5,338 per ton), while the price for Austria ($427 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average cereals; maize (corn), seed export price amounted to $458 per ton, falling by -38.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a modest expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 59% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $749 per ton, and then shrank markedly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($3,829 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($256 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of cereals; maize (corn), seeds decreased by -10% to 43K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 34%.
