In 2022, the average cereals; maize (corn), seed import price amounted to $1,396 per ton, picking up by 49% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 59%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,330 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($2,708 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($589 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $10,131 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($1,982 per ton), while the average price for exports to Niger stood at $797 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Niger (-0.7%).

In 2022, supplies from abroad of cereals; maize (corn), seeds decreased by -62.1% to 1.9K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a dramatic contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 810%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 127K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
