In August 2023, the average import price for cereals; maize (corn), other than seeds amounted to $253 per ton, rising by 8% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 14% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $313 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($247 per ton), while the price for Ukraine totaled $233 per ton.
From October 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In August 2023, the average export price for cereals; maize (corn), other than seeds amounted to $236 per ton, shrinking by -5.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 7.9% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $343 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Latvia ($272 per ton) and Estonia ($255 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($190 per ton) and Romania ($204 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
