The average import price for cereals; maize (corn), other than seeds stood at $281 per ton in August 2023, rising by 6.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 7.1% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $372 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($1,193 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($248 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($10,511 per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($334 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+47.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
