Price for Candy, Sweets, and Nonchocolate Confectionery in Hong Kong SAR (CIF) - 2022

The average import price for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery stood at $6,039 per ton in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 5.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $6,155 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($8,004 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($3,327 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average export price for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery amounted to $12,526 per ton, growing by 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated moderate growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.9% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery export price increased by +40.0% against April 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 35% against the previous month. The export price peaked in June 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($13,840 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($5,426 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Candy, Sweets, and Nonchocolate Confectionery in Hong Kong SAR

In 2022, the amount of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imported into Hong Kong SAR dropped to 21K tons, reducing by -15% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 13%.

In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports fell significantly to $129M in 2022. In general, imports showed a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 14% against the previous year.
