In December 2022, the average import price for artificial staple fibres, not carded, combed or otherwise processed for spinning amounted to $3,116 per ton, declining by -1.7% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2021 to December 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2022 an increase of 32% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,744 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to December 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the UK ($4,769 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,974 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
