The average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $1,688 per ton in May 2023, with a decrease of -3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 13% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,740 per ton in April 2023, and then contracted slightly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($2,267 per ton), while the price for Portugal ($1,483 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes amounted to $1,703 per ton, declining by -17.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 38% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $2,066 per ton in 2021, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($2,550 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($1,359 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
