Price for Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Italy (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes amounted to $1,301 per ton, rising by 4.8% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 13% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in June 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Norway ($1,572 per ton), while the average price for exports to Albania ($771 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Albania (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes amounted to $1,465 per ton, waning by -2.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a mild expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 25% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,674 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Chile ($1,608 per ton), while the price for Argentina totaled $1,519 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Italy
For the third consecutive year, Italy recorded decline in shipments abroad of apples, pears and quinces; freshes, which decreased by -4.7% to 947K tons in 2022. Overall, exports showed a pronounced curtailment. The smallest decline of -1.3% was in 2020.
In value terms, apples, pears and quinces; fresh exports declined rapidly to $999M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 12% against the previous year.
