The average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $1,801 per ton in March 2022, surging by 21% against the previous month. Over the period from March 2021 to March 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2021 when the average import price increased by 21% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,802 per ton in December 2021; afterwards, it flattened through to March 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,344 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($1,507 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $904 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 14%. The export price peaked at $1,128 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($997 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($551 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
