Price for Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Belgium (FOB) - 2023
The average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $1,241 per ton in June 2023, dropping by -2.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 30% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,278 per ton in May 2023, and then contracted modestly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($1,785 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($1,073 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $1,265 per ton in June 2023, increasing by 14% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 21% month-to-month. The import price peaked in June 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Africa ($2,488 per ton), while the price for the UK ($89.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Belgium
In 2022, overseas shipments of apples, pears and quinces; freshes decreased by -1.3% to 486K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 5.9%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 493K tons, and then declined modestly in the following year.
