In 2022, the average import price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $1,409 per ton, rising by 28% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($2,320 per ton), while the price for Morocco ($741 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander stood at $4,480 per ton in 2022, picking up by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, anise, badian, fennel and coriander export price increased by +42.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 59% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($12,478 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($1,319 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of anise, badian, fennel and coriander decreased by -42.6% to 15K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 39%.

In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports reduced markedly to $21M in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 29%.
