Price for Anise, Badian, Fennel and Coriander in Spain (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average export price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $3,371 per ton, with a decrease of -31.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 91% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $7,126 per ton. From May 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Portugal ($10,138 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($1,704 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average import price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $4,987 per ton, surging by 14% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a modest expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, anise, badian, fennel and coriander import price increased by +14.0% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 30% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in July 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($7,035 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($2,140 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Anise, Badian, Fennel and Coriander in Spain

In 2022, overseas shipments of anise, badian, fennel and coriander decreased by -17.9% to 6.6K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports showed a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 8.1K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports shrank to $21M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year.
