In July 2023, the average import price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $7,478 per ton, growing by 3.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 156% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $8,734 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($17,185 per ton), while the price for Italy ($2,150 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In July 2023, the average export price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $12,024 per ton, surging by 41% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 75% against the previous month. The export price peaked in July 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($22,648 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($6,438 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Anise, Badian, Fennel and Coriander in Hungary

For the fourth consecutive year, Hungary recorded growth in supplies from abroad of anise, badian, fennel and coriander, which increased by 12% to 651 tons in 2022. In general, imports saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 124% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports surged to $2.3M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +71.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

As a result, the exports attained the peak of 581 tons, and then fell significantly in the following year.

In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports dropped sharply to $902K in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced curtailment.
