The average import price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander stood at $1,741 per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,140 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($1,757 per ton), while the price for Myanmar totaled $1,137 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+0.8%).

The average export price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander stood at $2,199 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -2.8% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, anise, badian, fennel and coriander export price increased by +5.2% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 40% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $2,371 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3,209 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($494 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+14.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 48K tons of anise, badian, fennel and coriander were imported into Bangladesh; with an increase of 8.8% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 33%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 52K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports expanded significantly to $83M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 30%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $89M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 2.1K tons, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports reduced notably to $3.7M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 82%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $4.7M, and then fell sharply in the following year.
