Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Vietnam (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $1,352 per ton, declining by -8.4% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, aluminium waste and scrap import price increased by +6.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,667 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Australia ($1,370 per ton) and Japan ($1,370 per ton), while the price for Germany ($1,253 per ton) and Malaysia ($1,327 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $1,563 per ton in 2022, dropping by -8.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 17%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,701 per ton, and then contracted in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($1,594 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand totaled $1,455 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (-0.6%).
Imports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Vietnam
In 2022, approx. 70K tons of aluminium waste and scraps were imported into Vietnam; surging by 27% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -17.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 64%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 85K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports surged to $95M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 47%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $108M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports reached $58M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 12%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $60M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
