In 2022, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,867 per ton, shrinking by -11.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 40% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,119 per ton, and then fell in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($2,038 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($1,822 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for New Zealand.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Ghana amounted to +24.5% per year.

Overall, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 119% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 66K tons, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports shrank dramatically to $44M in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth.
