Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in the UK (FOB) - 2023

In May 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,817 per ton, with a decrease of -14.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 19% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $2,133 per ton in April 2023, and then shrank in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Poland ($2,204 per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($1,346 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In May 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap import price amounted to $1,649 per ton, surging by 26% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 40% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,094 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to May 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Australia ($2,629 per ton), while the price for Greece ($666 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 33%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 563K tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports plummeted to $723M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 96% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $957M, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
