Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Singapore (FOB) - 2022
The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $2,923 per ton in September 2022, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 when the average export price increased by 7% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $3,625 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was China ($3,884 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($2,136 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+15.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $998 per ton in 2022, falling by -6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,440 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($1,443 per ton), while the price for Timor-Leste ($216 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Timor-Leste (-1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Singapore
In 2022, approx. 69K tons of aluminium waste and scraps were exported from Singapore; with a decrease of -16.8% compared with the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 83K tons, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports dropped significantly to $127M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +31.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 64% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $157M, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Imports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Singapore
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of aluminium waste and scraps, when their volume increased by 170% to 5.2K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a precipitous descent.
In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports surged to $5.2M in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a sharp curtailment.
