In 2022, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,410 per ton, rising by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,570 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,668 per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($469 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $1,449 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -16.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,766 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Iraq ($2,120 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($1,236 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2015 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+12.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Saudi Arabia

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of aluminium waste and scraps, when their volume decreased by -19% to 212K tons. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +31.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 262K tons, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports reduced notably to $299M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +24.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 49%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $358M, and then fell significantly in the following year.
