The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $2,222 per ton in June 2023, standing approximately at the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 12% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,303 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Poland ($2,687 per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($1,630 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $2,032 per ton in June 2023, with an increase of 6.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 62% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $2,072 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($3,500 per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($1,262 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Romania

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of aluminium waste and scraps, when their volume decreased by -8.6% to 120K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 131K tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports contracted remarkably to $228M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +34.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 52%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $275M, and then fell markedly in the following year.

In 2022, aluminium waste and scrap exports from Romania contracted rapidly to 28K tons, declining by -23.3% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +43.6% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 36K tons, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports shrank notably to $45M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 166%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $65M, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
