Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Hungary (FOB) - 2023

The average aluminium waste and scrap export price stood at $2,338 per ton in June 2023, rising by 1.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 14% against the previous month. The export price peaked in June 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($2,723 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($1,696 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $1,834 per ton in June 2023, shrinking by -8.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 33% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,330 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($3,144 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($1,138 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Hungary

In 2022, approx. 102K tons of aluminium waste and scraps were exported from Hungary; declining by -4.6% compared with 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 20%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 107K tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports shrank significantly to $163M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 44%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $192M, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

Aluminium waste and scrap imports into Hungary contracted to 94K tons in 2022, with a decrease of -9.8% on the year before. In general, imports showed a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 104K tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports declined notably to $141M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +37.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $179M, and then fell significantly in the following year.
