Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Bulgaria (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $2,093 per ton, surging by 1.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 12% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $2,428 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Greece ($2,421 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($1,218 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $2,096 per ton in June 2023, declining by -8.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,387 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Hungary ($2,419 per ton), while the price for Greece ($1,589 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Exports of Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Bulgaria

In 2022, the amount of aluminium waste and scraps exported from Bulgaria fell to 39K tons, which is down by -12% on the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 44K tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap exports contracted dramatically to $60M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 110% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $81M, and then declined markedly in the following year.
