Price for Aluminium Waste and Scrap in Brazil (CIF) - 2023

The average aluminium waste and scrap import price stood at $1,972 per ton in July 2023, standing approximately at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 7.9% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,515 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from the United States ($2,169 per ton) and Mexico ($2,073 per ton), while the price for Bolivia ($1,531 per ton) and South Africa ($1,633 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (-1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In July 2023, the average aluminium waste and scrap export price amounted to $1,604 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 5.4% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,744 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($1,906 per ton) and Canada ($1,725 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($1,422 per ton) and the United States ($1,533 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, imports of aluminium waste and scraps into Brazil skyrocketed to 202K tons, jumping by 37% on 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, aluminium waste and scrap imports skyrocketed to $476M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
