The average import price for aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s stood at $4,095 per ton in December 2023, rising by 2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 an increase of 15% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,869 per ton. From April 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($11,485 per ton), while the price for Azerbaijan ($2,885 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s stood at $3,501 per ton in December 2023, growing by 3.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 an increase of 4.6% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $3,970 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to December 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In December 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Netherlands ($3,788 per ton) and Italy ($3,553 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($2,880 per ton) and Poland ($2,950 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports of aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s into Turkey skyrocketed to 143K tons in 2022, surging by 54% compared with the year before. In general, total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +55.2% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s soared to $667M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a remarkable increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +42.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 49%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 121K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, exports of aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s surged to $513M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 101% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
