In December 2023, the average export price for aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s amounted to $4,112 per ton, rising by 6.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $4,291 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to December 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the UK ($5,198 per ton) and Austria ($5,161 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($3,495 per ton) and Spain ($4,245 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s stood at $4,348 per ton in 2022, rising by 23% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,715 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($4,965 per ton), while the price for France ($3,036 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12%.
In value terms, exports of aluminium; plates, sheets and strip, thickness exceeding 0.2mm, alloys, rectangular (including square)s skyrocketed to $1.3B in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +73.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 41%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
