In 2022, the average import price for alcohols; aromatic and derivatives, other than benzyl alcohol amounted to $8,602 per ton, surging by 3.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 104%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $10,178 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($22,429 per ton), while the price for Kenya ($2,616 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+156.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Alcohols; Aromatic and Derivatives, Other than Benzyl Alcohol in Uganda
In 2022, approx. 762 kg of alcohols; aromatic and derivatives, other than benzyl alcohol were imported into Uganda; which is down by -41.5% compared with 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 487% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.3 tons, and then shrank notably in the following year.
In value terms, imports of alcohols; aromatic and derivatives, other than benzyl alcohol fell remarkably to $6.6K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 385%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $11K, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
