Preserved Tuna Price in China (FOB) - 2023
The average preserved tuna export price stood at $6,455 per ton in June 2023, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 13% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $6,944 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($12,997 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($2,332 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Tuna Price in China (CIF) - 2023
The average preserved tuna import price stood at $5,971 per ton in June 2023, almost unchanged from the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $6,250 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($6,378 per ton), while the price for the Philippines ($4,967 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Preserved Tuna Exports in China
In 2022, overseas shipments of tuna (prepared or preserved) decreased by -1.9% to 133K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 10%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 136K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preserved tuna exports rose remarkably to $789M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +56.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 21%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
