Preserved Herring Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
The average preserved herring import price stood at $6,369 per ton in July 2023, stabilizing at the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 48% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $8,205 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($7,387 per ton), while the price for China ($5,935 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Preserved Herring Price in Japan (FOB) - 2022
The average preserved herring export price stood at $15,768 per ton in 2022, declining by -3.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 8.6%. The export price peaked at $17,597 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to South Korea ($19,039 per ton) and Hong Kong SAR ($18,878 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($13,151 per ton) and Thailand ($13,628 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Herring Imports in Japan
For the third year in a row, Japan recorded decline in overseas purchases of herrings (prepared or preserved), which decreased by -0.5% to 1.5K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a drastic downturn.
