In 2022, the average preserved fish fillet import price amounted to $1,515 per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, faced a abrupt setback. The average preserved fish fillet export price stood at $1,838 per ton in December 2021, shrinking by -32.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2021 when the average export price increased by 143% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $13,468 per ton. From June 2021 to December 2021, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Indonesia.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Indonesia amounted to +8.1% per month.
Preserved Fish Fillet Imports in Malaysia
In 2022, approx. 98 tons of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked) were imported into Malaysia; increasing by 19% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +51.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, preserved fish fillet imports soared to $149K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment.

Over the period under review, exports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 169% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, preserved fish fillet exports soared to $4M in 2022. In general, exports posted a significant expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
