The average prepared sheep leather import price stood at $1.9 per square meter in 2022, dropping by -40.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a sharp contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 34%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $27 per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($2.2 per square meter), while the price for Finland stood at $0.2 per square meter.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+87.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Prepared Sheep Leather Imports in Myanmar
In 2022, supplies from abroad of sheep or lamb skin leather, prepared decreased by -32% to 44K square meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 831% against the previous year. Imports peaked at 65K square meters in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, prepared sheep leather imports fell rapidly to $85K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 537%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $245K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
