Polycarbonate Price in Japan (FOB) - 2023
The average polycarbonate export price stood at $3,816 per ton in July 2023, falling by -7.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 25% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $4,671 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($8,670 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($1,922 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Polycarbonate Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average polycarbonate import price amounted to $2,466 per ton, reducing by -5.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 11% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,264 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from the Netherlands ($3,050 per ton) and the United States ($2,993 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($2,235 per ton) and Thailand ($2,247 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Polycarbonate Exports in Japan
Polycarbonate exports from Japan dropped remarkably to 200K tons in 2022, which is down by -16.3% on the year before. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 27%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 239K tons, and then declined sharply in the following year.
In value terms, polycarbonate exports contracted to $947M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 22%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $1.1B, and then shrank in the following year.
