Platinum Price in India (CIF) - 2023
The average platinum import price stood at $34.0M per ton in July 2023, reducing by -8.9% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a modest expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, platinum import price decreased by -8.9% against June 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 51% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $53.2M per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($58.3M per ton), while the price for Germany ($29.9M per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Platinum Price in India (FOB) - 2022
The average platinum export price stood at $27,685,615 per ton in 2022, reducing by -11.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 3,528%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $31,401,071 per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($71,339,313 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($887,959 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic Republic of the Congo (+522.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Platinum Imports in India
In 2022, imports of platinum into India contracted to 4.3 tons, declining by -13.7% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 5 tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, platinum imports contracted markedly to $163M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $195M, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

Platinum Exports in India
Platinum exports from India surged to 1.2 tons in 2022, jumping by 132% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, platinum exports surged to $34M in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 212%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
