Platinum Price in Canada (CIF) - 2022
The average platinum import price stood at $24,721,936 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -25.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 19%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $38,824 per kg. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($52,145,880 per ton), while the price for Switzerland ($17,554,714 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Platinum Price in Canada (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average platinum export price amounted to $34.1M per ton, dropping by -13.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when the average export price increased by 70% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $55,737 per kg. From August 2022 to June 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($44.1M per ton), while the average price for exports to Guyana ($22.2M per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Platinum Imports in Canada
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of platinum decreased by -32.9% to 3 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 80%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 4.5 tons, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
In value terms, platinum imports fell notably to $74M in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion.
