The average plain postcard import price stood at $19,761 per ton in 2022, dropping by -22.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 176%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $25,605 per ton in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($93,000 per ton), while the price for Lebanon ($1,800 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+31.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Plain Postcard Price in Ghana (FOB) - 2022

The average plain postcard export price stood at $3,074 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 2.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average export price increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $6,067 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($14,125 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($643 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kenya (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Plain Postcard Imports in Ghana

In 2022, supplies from abroad of letter cards, plain postcards and correspondence cards decreased by -10% to 666 kg, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 753 kg. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plain postcard imports contracted dramatically to $13K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 157% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $19K, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Plain Postcard Exports in Ghana

In 2022, approx. 310 kg of letter cards, plain postcards and correspondence cards were exported from Ghana; increasing by 2.3% compared with the previous year. In general, exports saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 329% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, plain postcard exports amounted to $953 in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 270%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $996. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
