Over the period under review, the total production indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -1.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The country with the largest volume of phosphinates and phosphonates production was China (94K tons), comprising approx. 45% of total volume. Moreover, phosphinates and phosphonates production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, India (18K tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Pakistan (12K tons), with a 5.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in China stood at +3.7%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: India (+3.2% per year) and Pakistan (+1.9% per year).

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. France (3.7K tons), Switzerland (3.4K tons), South Korea (3.3K tons), India (2.7K tons), Israel (2.2K tons) and Turkey (1.4K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +20.3%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest phosphinates and phosphonates importing markets worldwide were Germany ($83M), the United States ($44M) and Japan ($35M), together comprising 41% of global imports. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($5,961 per ton), while the Netherlands ($2,606 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 118% against the previous year. The global exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports By Country
China dominates exports structure, resulting at 52K tons, which was near 66% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Switzerland (6.6K tons), making up an 8.4% share of total exports. Belgium (3.1K tons), the Netherlands (3.1K tons), Pakistan (1.9K tons), Italy (1.6K tons), the United States (1.5K tons) and Turkey (1.3K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Pakistan (+63.7%), the Netherlands (+21.0%), Italy (+9.5%) and Belgium (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +63.7% from 2012-2022. Switzerland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Turkey (-2.2%) and the United States (-6.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+3.8 p.p.), the Netherlands (+3.1 p.p.) and Pakistan (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Switzerland and the United States saw its share reduced by -2% and -3.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($256M) remains the largest phosphinates and phosphonates supplier worldwide, comprising 73% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Switzerland ($17M), with a 4.7% share of global exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 2.8% share.
In China, phosphinates and phosphonates exports increased at an average annual rate of +11.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Switzerland (+3.1% per year) and Belgium (+11.1% per year).
Export Prices By Country
The average phosphinates and phosphonates export price stood at $4,475 per ton in 2022, picking up by 35% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
