Oat Price in Sri Lanka (CIF) - 2022

The average oat import price stood at $366 per ton in 2022, rising by 30% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $822 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($377 per ton), while the price for Canada totaled $331 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Oat Price in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022

The average oat export price stood at $2,122 per ton in 2022, jumping by 56% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 150%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Saudi Arabia ($2,435 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($2,249 per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($1,921 per ton) and Qatar ($2,097 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+42.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Oat Imports in Sri Lanka

In 2022, the amount of oats imported into Sri Lanka declined to 15K tons, with a decrease of -6.5% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 59%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 16K tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, oat imports surged to $5.3M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 81% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Oat Exports in Sri Lanka

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of oats, when their volume decreased by -30% to 187 tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 234% against the previous year.

In value terms, oat exports expanded sharply to $396K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 272% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
