In December 2022, the average non-liquid margarine import price amounted to $878 per ton, waning by -43.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 135% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,902 per ton. From August 2022 to December 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($902 per ton), while the price for China stood at $800 per ton.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+9.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Non-Liquid Margarine Imports in Myanmar
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of non-liquid margarine decreased by -14.7% to 2.3K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 15%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2.7K tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, non-liquid margarine imports declined to $2.7M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.5% over the last three-year period.
