Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 23%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2.5 per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($3.8 per unit), while the price for China ($0.8 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price peaked at $5.4 per unit in July 2023, and then contracted markedly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($7.0 per unit), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($1.2 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
