The average mullite import price stood at $364 per ton in September 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 28% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $552 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($370 per ton), while the price for Marshall Islands amounted to $295 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Marshall Islands (-1.6%).

In 2022, the average mullite export price amounted to $6,552 per ton, surging by 290% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a significant expansion. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($55,067 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($961 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Mullite Imports in India
For the fourth year in a row, India recorded growth in purchases abroad of mullites, which increased by 13% to 8.5K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, mullite imports rose sharply to $4M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.1% against 2019 indices. In 2022, overseas shipments of mullites increased by 4.4% to 24 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, recorded a precipitous curtailment.
