Molluscs Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

In October 2023, the average molluscs import price amounted to $8,492 per ton, increasing by 4.9% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 9.1% m-o-m. The import price peaked in October 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($25,297 per ton), while the price for Chile ($2,744 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (+1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Molluscs Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

In October 2023, the average molluscs export price amounted to $4,496 per ton, surging by 16% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 31% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $5,415 per ton. From July 2023 to October 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($12,630 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($1,235 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+17.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Molluscs Imports in the United States

Molluscs imports into the United States dropped modestly to 127K tons in 2022, which is down by -2.6% against the year before. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +52.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 130K tons, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

In value terms, molluscs imports surged to $1B in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 75% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In general, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +56.5% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, molluscs exports skyrocketed to $295M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +61.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
