Molluscs Price in Greece (CIF) - 2023
The average molluscs import price stood at $6,274 per ton in August 2023, increasing by 9.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 17% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,961 per ton. From April 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($15,988 per ton), while the price for China ($2,580 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Molluscs Price in Greece (FOB) - 2023
The average molluscs export price stood at $6,865 per ton in August 2023, surging by 7.6% against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 26% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,994 per ton. From June 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($8,925 per ton), while the average price for exports to Albania ($4,286 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Molluscs Imports in Greece
In 2022, imports of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) into Greece expanded modestly to 30K tons, picking up by 4.4% on the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 42%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, molluscs imports soared to $183M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +97.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Overall, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +44.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 41%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 5.2K tons, and then declined modestly in the following year.
In value terms, molluscs exports fell to $30M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +48.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 49%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $30M, leveling off in the following year.
