Molluscs Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average molluscs import price amounted to $8,177 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 18% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $9,544 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($18,061 per ton), while the price for China ($4,467 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Molluscs Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average molluscs export price amounted to $12,992 per ton, with an increase of 27% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 364% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in August 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($35,692 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($3,212 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+16.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Molluscs Imports in Germany
In 2022, supplies from abroad of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) was finally on the rise to reach 13K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decline.
In value terms, molluscs imports skyrocketed to $105M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
