Molluscs Price in Ecuador (FOB) - 2022
In January 2022, the average molluscs export price amounted to $1,581 per ton, dropping by -44.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, posted a pronounced expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2021 an increase of 84% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,831 per ton in December 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($2,700 per ton), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($366 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tunisia (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Molluscs Price in Ecuador (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average molluscs import price amounted to $1,256 per ton, reducing by -3.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 26%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,457 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($3,350 per ton), while the price for Peru ($1,015 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+21.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Molluscs Exports in Ecuador
In 2022, shipments abroad of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) increased by 63% to 3.8K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant contraction.
In value terms, molluscs exports surged to $6M in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a significant decline.

Molluscs Imports in Ecuador
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of molluscs (scallops, mussels, cuttle fish, squid and octopus) decreased by -21.3% to 409 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 58%.
In value terms, molluscs imports dropped remarkably to $513K in 2022. In general, imports recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $837K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
