Methanol Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average methanol import price amounted to $254 per ton, with an increase of 4.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep reduction. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $713 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($256 per ton), while the price for Azerbaijan ($223 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Trinidad and Tobago (0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Methanol Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2023
The average methanol export price stood at $257 per ton in September 2023, reducing by -21.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 9.1% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $366 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Ukraine ($334 per ton) and Bulgaria ($263 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($234 per ton) and Israel ($252 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Methanol Imports in Turkey
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of methanol (methyl alcohol), when their volume decreased by -11% to 521K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years.
