Metals; Platinum, Semi-Manufactured Price in the UK (FOB) - 2023
The average metals; platinum, semi-manufactured export price stood at $24.9M per ton in August 2023, reducing by -19.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a slight descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 102% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $76,513 per kg. From February 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($29.4M per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($2.4M per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In August 2023, the average metals; platinum, semi-manufactured import price amounted to $29.5M per ton, stabilizing at the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 46% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $38.2M per ton in January 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Spain ($30.1M per ton) and Switzerland ($30.1M per ton), while the price for the United States ($25.5M per ton) and Germany ($28.6M per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, shipments abroad of metals; platinum, semi-manufactureds decreased by -17.6% to 51 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 108%.
In value terms, metals; platinum, semi-manufactured exports shrank dramatically to $1.6B in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 161% against the previous year.
