Metals; Platinum, Semi-Manufactured Price in Japan (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average metals; platinum, semi-manufactured export price amounted to $19.3M per ton, stabilizing at the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $27.7M per ton in December 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($30.3M per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($14.6M per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 66% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $48.0M per ton in November 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2023.
